Maastricht’s intellectual history dates much further back than 1976, the year that saw the establishment of the university. For centuries there were Maastrichtenaren who distinguished themselves in various fields. Based on twelve portraits, this book focuses on education, science and the general knowledge climate in Maastricht. The book concludes with a focus on the relationship that has existed between the university and the city for the past 35 years.
